£10,000 award made to ‘outstanding’ children’s charity

MERKUR UK has joined stars including actor Philip Glenister (Life On Mars, Ashes to Ashes, Outcast) and television presenter Chris Bavin (Eat Well For Less, Britain’s Best Home Cook) in supporting the Momentum Children’s charity.

Momentum, which provides a range of support services to families with children facing cancer or a life-challenging condition, has received £10,000 from the MERKUR Community fund the social initiative organised by the company in partnership with its high street customers.

Momentum provides tailored care to every child that’s referred to them, in the process supporting hundreds of families through the most difficult and loneliest of times.

It receives no government funding and relies entirely on donations and fundraising by organisations such as MERKUR UK.

A spokesperson for the charity confirmed: “Every donation makes a real and tangible difference, so on behalf of everyone at Momentum and the many families with seriously ill children that we support, thank you so very, very much.”

“The services that we provide comprising family support, counselling, creative therapies, respite breaks and treats are frequently described as being “a lifeline”.

“Last year we  engaged with 419 families, as well as a further 164 families through our ‘Echoes’ bereavement services. Referrals for our support have never been higher so receipt of such a generous donation is incredibly welcome.”

MERKUR UK’s Tony Boulton said: “It’s only when you speak with the team at Momentum that you gain an understanding of the importance of the work they do, how they bring kindness and comfort to families in the darkest of times and how difficult it is for them to meet the demand which exists.

“I’m delighted that we have been able to contribute to the outstanding work undertaken by The Momentum Children’s Charity.”
