MERKUR UK is contributing to a sustainable future with its support for a range of environmental groups stretching from Somerset to Scotland.
Part of its social purpose program MERKUR is helping to fund the planting of native trees, reviving waterways, bringing ecosystems back to life and protecting ancient woodlands.
Supported organisations include Scottish Wildlife Trust, Kent Wildlife Trust, Somerset Wildlife Trust, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, the Parks Trust and Ecologi, the climate action platform that has funded the planting of over 87 million trees.
MERKUR UK General Manager Sascha Blodau noted: “Our founder Paul Gauselmann led the way when he launched the Tress for Life initiative.
“For his 85th birthday which was celebrated in 2019 he donated 1,000 trees for each year of his life, in the process making an important contribution to climate protection.”
He added: ““Nature contributes so much to our collective wellbeing and we are delighted to provide support to groups that boost local biodiversity, protect nature reserves and contribute to a sustainable future.”
“It’s so important that we all do whatever we can to pass-on a liveable world to our children and to our children’s children.”
All of the organisations that are being supported undertake crucial work in the communities they serve.
Kent Wildlife Trust
Kent Wildlife Trust (KWT) transforms habitats, protects species and brings ecosystems back to life. It maintains 90 nature reserves in the county with visitor centres located in Sevenoaks and Maidstone.
Somerset Wildlife Trust
The SWT aims to ensure that at least 30 percent of land and sea is managed positively for nature. The Trust helps people connect with the wildlife around them and supports communities to take positive action for the environment.
Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust
The Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust (NWT) cares for nature reserves including wildflower meadows, wetlands and ancient woodlands. It engages communities through events, education and volunteering opportunities.
The Parks Trust
The Parks Trust is responsible for over 6,000 acres of green space in Milton Keynes and includes parks, ancient woodlands, lakes, river valleys and 80 miles of landscaped areas along the city’s grid roads. The Trust manages and protects green spaces in the city.
Ecologi
Ecologi is a progressive climate action platform that has grown into a community of over 24,000 businesses and 40,000 members. Its’ forest conservation and restoration strategies help to remove carbon from the atmosphere and store it naturally in trees’ biomass.
