England Hockey has launched its Pick up a Stick campaign with the help of a £10,000 award from MERKUR Community, the social project which is funded by the company and its high street customers.
Launched to take advantage of the higher profile generated by the Paris Olympics, Pick up a Stick has a simple objective which is to get more people playing hockey at all levels.
The MERKUR funding will go towards coaching courses enabling clubs to deliver more hockey sessions in their local community as well as the creation of a tool kit of interactive digital resources.
Tony Boulton, MERKUR UK’s Director of Public and Political Relations who has overseen the launch and implementation of MERKUR Community said: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to help fund the work of England Hockey and encourage greater numbers to play the game regardless of their previous hockey experience.”
“Sports featured in the Olympics enjoy a spike in interest and this is the perfect timing for England Hockey to engage with current, lapsed and most importantly generations of new players.
“We are delighted to provide a helping hand to a campaign whose upbeat motto is Play: Celebrate: Inspire!”
