The MERKUR Initiative programme is supporting individuals and good causes that sit at the heart of our local communities. The company is proud to confirm the first wave of beneficiaries.
Following nominations made by members of the MERKUR UK team and their customers the first seven good causes have been identified for financial support and assistance.
Those benefitting comprise an animal sanctuary, a community group of volunteers working to clear an urban area that’s been blighted by fly-tippers, an organisation that provides entertainment for children while they are in hospital, a roof appeal being run in aid of a local hospice, a charity that delivers support for people suffering from severe mental illness, a homelessness organisation that provides emergency temporary accommodation, as well as a member of the MERKUR UK team who is undertaking a 26-mile sponsored walk with her family in aid of Macmillan.
Lola Wood, the company’s Customer Experience Manager has been delighted with the response to MERKUR Initiative following its successful trial across MERKUR Slots venues in the Midlands. “Our aim when creating MERKUR Initiative was to support a broad range of smaller good causes and engage with our communities” she explained. “All of the venue teams have really got behind the programme and their nominations reflect what’s important to them and their customers the vast majority of whom live in the local community. If MERKUR Initiative can provide the last bit of funding that enables a hospice to repair its roof, allows an animal sanctuary to remain open or for Sharon who works in our marketing department to hit her fundraising target to support research into Cancer – then its money incredibly well spent.”
MERKUR Initiative funding awards will be announced throughout the year. Once good causes have been nominated a short-list is drawn-up with the final decision on support confirmed by MERKUR’S 360 Advisory Board.
