Oxford-based Body Politic, which runs hip-hop and street dance classes for young people from vulnerable communities has become the latest not for profit organisation to benefit from the MERKUR Community fund.
Since its launch in February MERKUR Community has provided financial assistance to a total of 14 organisations, in many instances enabling them to continue to provide free or heavily subsidised opportunities for people who otherwise would not be able to participate.
The MERKUR Community scheme which comprises funds raised by the company and its customers has set out an ambitious plan to make 40 awards in Year 1.
Director of Public and Political Relations, Tony Boulton explained: “Body Politic is typical of the type of organisation that we are working with.
“It runs a leadership programme to encourage young dance leaders and at their Summer Camp provide free places for young people who are in receipt of free school meals.
“With our support, Body Politic will be able to purchase the equipment and resources required to deliver five action-packed days of hip-hop, street dance, fitness training and t-shirt designing all culminating in a special end of camp performance.”
“It’s hugely rewarding when you see how much of a difference the contributions from MERKUR Community can make to organisations such as Body Politic which engage so powerfully with local people.”
