When the parents of a talented young cricketer wrote to local businesses seeking sponsorship MERKUR Initiative was happy to take to the field.
MERKUR Initiative which continues to support a wide range of worthy causes and individuals throughout the country has agreed to help in the development of young cricketer Alfie Dobson as he works to earn a professional contract and one day perhaps even represent his country!
The 16-year old from the market town of Chorley near Preston has played for Lancashire Cricket Club since he was just 10-years old. His prestigious talent has earned him a place at Lancashire Cricket Club Academy a stage which is widely regarded as a stepping-stone to earning an all-important professional contract.
Joint managing director of Regal Gaming Technologies Matt Bicknell, who recommended Alfie as a MERKUR Initiative beneficiary explained: “Elite level cricket is an expensive undertaking and Alfie’s parents reached out to enquire about the possibilities of securing some sponsorship support to help fund the additional costs of travel, the purchase of kit as well as specialist one-to-one professional coaching.”
He added: “I’m delighted that through the MERKUR Initiative scheme we are able to play a modest role in helping Alfie fulfil his true potential and address the challenges which face up and coming gifted sportsmen/women and their families.
“In the same way that we will be following the progress of MERKUR UK brand ambassador and World Number 1 Paralympic table tennis star Will Bayley at the Paris Games I’m sure that sometime in the future we will also be tracking the progress of MERKUR supported Alfie Dobson as he makes his way as a professional first class cricketer.”
